UC Hastings Challenge
Time to go all-in for opportunity
Once again, we are privileged to chair the UC Hastings Challenge, which invites all alumni — at law firms, in corporate or public sector organizations — to reconnect with UC Hastings and play a role in the law school’s future.
This year, the Challenge rallies us around the idea of opportunity. We all experienced opportunity at UC Hastings. And we’ve all built on what UC Hastings provided to create interesting and successful careers through which we make a difference.
We invite you now to pay that opportunity forward by investing in opportunity for this and subsequent generations of students. Challenge gifts or pledges from successful alumni like you sustain the singular advantage that defines a UC Hastings education. Opportunities to participate in innovative new clinics, learn from our profession’s leading scholars, gain savvy and experience in an exciting urban environment — you can make all this and so much more possible through the Challenge.
Why does a public institution need private support? As you are probably aware, public support for UC Hastings has eroded dramatically in recent years. In the 2014 – 15 academic year, the law school received only 17% of its total operating budget from the State of California’s General Fund. To remain affordable and excellent — to maintain a high profile among law schools — UC Hastings relies on our support. And the next generation of alums is counting on us.
UC Hastings has always felt like an all-in place. We know that you worked hard and probably sacrificed much for your legal education. Now, we hope you’ll go all-in for the UC Hastings Challenge, channeling the drive to excel and the competitive spirit that lives in all of us.
Participation in the Challenge is your opportunity to give back — and be recognized as part of an exceptional firm, company, or organization. Any gift or pledge you make during 2015 will count toward your employer’s participation rate. Your organization will receive recognition when the percentage of your alumni who donate reaches silver (50%), gold (75%) or platinum (100%) levels.
Although we’re co-chairing the Challenge, we know that alumni volunteers who make their gifts and then invite colleagues to do the same are the true leaders. Let’s go all-in and contribute to the future together. Tomorrow’s UC Hastings opportunities depend on us.
